How Therapy Works | What to Expect

First contact: Reach out by email or book a free 15-minute fit call to ask any questions, share a little about what's brought you here, and talk through practicalities like fees and availability. It's low-pressure and completely free. Please note: this isn't a therapy session and I won't be offering clinical advice. Book here.

Initial assessment sessionThe first session is an opportunity for us to meet properly. You don't need to have everything figured out or know exactly what you want to say. We'll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what's feeling hardest right now, and what you're hoping things might look like on the other side. It's also a chance for you to ask me anything you want to know about how I work. There's no pressure to commit to anything beyond that first session. If you decide to continue with ongoing therapy, we'll check in regularly to make sure therapy is feeling useful and right for you. Book here

Ongoing work: Some clients want short‑term, focused support. Others prefer longer‑term work to understand deeper patterns. We will decide together.

My approach: Integrative, drawing on relational, person‑centred, psychodynamic and mindfulness methods.

Confidentiality and ethics: I follow the BACP Ethical Framework and receive regular supervision.

Questions People Often Ask

1. Is therapy right for me if I am not in crisis?

Yes. Many clients come to therapy not in acute crisis, but at a crossroads such as navigating fertility challenges, adjusting to parenthood, or feeling a quiet sense of having lost themselves. You don't have to be at breaking point to deserve support.

2.What is perinatal mental health, and is it different from postnatal depression?

Perinatal mental health refers to emotional and psychological wellbeing during pregnancy and in the year following birth. Postnatal depression is one part of this, but perinatal mental health also includes anxiety during pregnancy, birth trauma, tokophobia (fear of childbirth), postnatal rage, and the identity shift known as matrescence. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from perinatal therapy, many of my clients come simply because something feels hard and they want support.

3. Do you offer online sessions? Do you offer therapy if I'm not based in London?

Yes. I work online with clients across the UK. Online sessions are conducted via a secure video platform and are just as effective as in-person work for most people. I see clients in person in Notting Hill, London for those who prefer face-to-face sessions.

4. How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Some people find shorter work helpful. Others choose longer‑term therapy to explore deeper patterns. We will review together.

5. Do you work with children or teenagers?

No, I only work with adults over the age of 18.

6. Do you work with couples or families?

I work with individuals rather than couples or families. However, many of my clients want to explore struggles and patterns in their relationships, whether that’s with a partner, family members, or friends. Our work can help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface, make sense of recurring dynamics, and develop tools for healthier, more fulfilling connections.

7. Do you work with LGBTQ+ people and same-sex couples?

Yes. I work with LGBTQ+ individuals across all areas of my practice, including those navigating fertility treatment, donor conception, surrogacy and parenting. This is an affirming, non-judgmental space and you will not need to explain or justify your family structure.

8. Do you support single parents by choice or solo parents?

Yes. I support single mothers and fathers by choice at all stages, from the decision-making process, through fertility treatment or adoption, and into the realities of solo parenting. The particular pressures of doing this without a partner are something I am well placed to support.

9. Do you accept insurance?

I don’t work directly with insurance providers, which means sessions are self‑funded. Many clients prefer this because it gives them complete privacy and flexibility because your therapy stays confidential, and you can choose the pace and focus without restrictions from an insurer. If you’d like to check whether your provider offers reimbursement for out‑of‑network therapy, I’m happy to provide receipts for you to submit.

10. Can I leave a review or testimonial?
I do not solicit testimonials in order to protect your privacy and to honour professional ethics.
