‘Social battery’ doesn’t exist — this is why you’re really feeling drained  by Maicey Navarro Griffiths

I spoke about why the idea of a "social battery" doesn't tell the whole story. How drained we feel often depends on how understood we feel with someone, not how long we've spent with them. I also talked about how isolating the early months with a baby can be.

"For a lot of neurodivergent people it takes even more effort, because so many social settings weren’t designed with them in mind. Masking, or working out unspoken rules as you go, is hard work, and it’s no surprise it leaves people feeling exhausted. I hear this from the new mothers I work with all the time. They’ll tell me their social battery is completely flat, and when we talk about it, they’ve barely had a proper conversation with another adult all week. They’ve been with their baby constantly and are feeling isolated, which is its own kind of tiring."
